![]() Four NMC Lithium-Ion Batteries (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide). ![]() 400 kW (536 hp) total peak power, 334 kW (448 hp) continuous power. ![]() Two Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), 167 kW each.In addition, fully electric trucks produce significantly less noise, potentially enabling nighttime operation, a particularly attractive option for refuse operators in urban environments. The frequent starts and stops, which can occur thousands of times per shift, also provide a significant regenerative braking opportunity to recapture energy.įully electric trucks like the Mack LR Electric provide a number of benefits, including zero emissions and the potential for improved environmental sustainability. Collection vehicles operate on predetermined routes and return home every off shift, helping eliminate concerns about range and finding a location to charge. DSNY is also a sustainability innovator and has initiated several programs designed to reduce waste sent to landfills, as well as cut emissions.Įven as electromobility technology and supporting infrastructure continues to develop, refuse and recycling collection represents an ideal application for battery electric vehicles because of the potential to deliver the most value to customers. DSNY is the world’s largest sanitation department, with its 10,000 employees collecting more than 12,000 tons of refuse and recyclables each day. Four NMC lithium-ion batteries (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) are charged via a 150kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system.Īs one of Mack’s largest customers, DSNY was an ideal choice to test the first LR Electric model in a real-world application. The Mack LR Electric features a copper-colored Bulldog hood ornament, signifying that it’s an electric vehicle.Īll of the LR Electric’s accessories, including the hydraulic systems for the Heil DuraPack 5000 body, are electrically driven through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. Power is sent through a two-speed Mack Powershift transmission and put to the ground by Mack’s proprietary S522R 52,000-lb. The Mack LR Electric is powered by Mack’s integrated electric powertrain consisting of two 130-kW motors producing a combined 496 peak horsepower and 4,051 lb.-ft. The LR Electric will be in real-world testing in the demanding operations of the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and will soon be tested in Republic Services’ fleet.Īt this point in the development of electromobility technology and infrastructure, Mack believes that a fully electric vehicle will work best in a closed loop application in which the truck returns home every night – such as in the refuse industry. Mack refuse models include the Mack ® TerraPro™, Mack Granite ®, Mack LR and the newest member of the refuse lineup, the Mack LR Electric.īased on the industry-leading design of the Mack LR model, the LR Electric features a fully electric Mack drivetrain. Also a better part of the non-Technic elements is unused.Īll in all the Mack LR Garbage Truck is the best B model I’ve seen in many years, almost makes you buy a second copy of 42078 just to have both models on display.Mack Trucks, the longtime leader in the refuse industry due to the legendary durability, reliability and maneuverability of its trucks, as well as its unwavering support of refuse customers, is spotlighting its comprehensive lineup of Mack ® refuse models during the virtual Waste Expo 2020. I cannot tell you the exact number of pieces used/not used from the A model as there might be some additional pieces here what I added during my first motorization attempt, but there are a lot of panels/beams/frames left. ![]() If you’re finding yourself building complicated 3d shapes with different connectors sticking out everywhere and you have no idea what you’re doing, then suddenly everything perfectly pops in place and you realize what part you just built – that’s a design by Milan for sure □ I’m amazed by his design ideas and refreshing approach he takes to mimic real life components. I think this is a signature building style of the designer, Milan Reindl. The garbage truck has many complex sections. ![]() That’s understandable considering the size of the build and the space available in the front section. There are two steering wheels, but unfortunately they are not functional this time. We have the MACK logo and also Mack the Bulldog □ There are also working windshield wipers. The front is again detailed with non-Technic bricks (although due to the size and shape it uses less elements than the Anthem). The truck has a container with the rims used as garbage. ![]()
